On May 22, the “2026 Chile-China (Hong Kong) Business Cooperation Exchange Conference”, hosted by the Chilean Export Promotion Bureau (ProChile) and co-organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC), Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), and the Greater Bay Area Import and Export Commercial General Association, was successfully held in Hong Kong. As the first large-scale economic and trade exchange event officially held by Chilean authorities in Hong Kong, China, the event brought together nearly 100 enterprise representatives from China and Chile. Participants jointly explored new opportunities in agricultural product trade, investment cooperation, and regional market connectivity. The Chamber fully leveraged its bridging role by actively organizing high-quality buyer delegations from the Greater Bay Area to travel to Hong Kong to attend the conference.

At the exchange conference, Ms. Karina Concha, Consul General of Chile in Hong Kong and Macao, delivered the opening address. She stated that Chile and Hong Kong have maintained close cooperation for a long time, and the “Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong, China and Chile” signed in 2012 laid a solid foundation for bilateral economic and trade relations. With world-class food safety standards, high-quality agricultural and fishery products, and a transparent business environment, Chile has always been a trustworthy strategic partner for Hong Kong and Asian markets.
The conference simultaneously hosted the “Chile-Hong Kong Investment and Cooperation Opportunities Forum” and the “Agri-Food Industry Roundtable Forum,” where senior government officials, industry experts, and business leaders engaged in in-depth exchanges.

At the Investment and Cooperation Opportunities Forum, Mr. Song Yuanming, Chilean Commercial Consul in Guangzhou, shared the continuously deepening economic and trade ties between China and Chile. He highlighted Chile’s core competitive advantages in specialty agricultural products such as fresh fruits, seafood, and wine, as well as its open and diversified investment ecosystem. He emphasized that Hong Kong, as an international trade and financial gateway, serves as a crucial channel for Chilean enterprises to enter the Chinese mainland, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the broader Asian market.

Ms. Sindy Wong from Invest Hong Kong elaborated on Hong Kong’s unique value as a global business and investment hub. She provided a detailed overview of Hong Kong’s prominent status in finance, logistics, professional services, and international trade connectivity, while analyzing local consumption trends and import demands. She noted that Chile and Hong Kong enjoy a high degree of complementarity in areas such as food imports, hospitality and catering, mining investment, and regional business expansion, indicating vast space for cooperation.

During the Agri-Food Industry Roundtable Forum, five speakers from the fresh produce, seafood, trade distribution, and chamber of commerce sectors shared practical insights into the growing demand for high-quality Chilean agricultural products in Asian markets, further clarifying Hong Kong’s strategic importance as a regional procurement, distribution, and re-export platform. Representatives from both sides also engaged in heated discussions on core topics including supply chain optimization, product standard alignment, and market trend analysis.

On the afternoon of the same day, enterprise representatives from both sides conducted three-hour one-on-one business matchmaking sessions, creating a lively atmosphere on-site. Eleven leading Chilean export enterprises from industries such as fresh fruit, oats, seafood, and flowers, together with over 30 major importers and buyers from the Greater Bay Area, held more than 60 face-to-face in-depth negotiation sessions. Discussions centered around product quality standards, production capacity supply, pricing systems, and customized cooperation models.

As a co-organizer of this grand event, the Chamber was deeply involved in event organization and service delivery. To ensure effective matching, the Chamber initiated buyer recruitment and supply-demand alignment for the Greater Bay Area one month in advance. It accurately collected procurement needs and synchronized them with the Chilean organizers, tailoring matchmaking plans for participating enterprises. On the day of the event, multiple Greater Bay Area buyers reached preliminary cooperation intentions with Chilean enterprises on-site, laying a solid foundation for subsequent business cooperation and market expansion.

This exchange conference successfully established an efficient docking platform for Chinese and Chilean enterprises, effectively opening a channel for premium Chilean products to enter the Greater Bay Area market. As the frontier of China’s consumption upgrade, the Greater Bay Area boasts robust market demand and immense potential. Moving forward, the Chamber will fully leverage Hong Kong’s unique geographical advantage as a “Super Connector,” continuing to play its bridging role. It will actively expand economic and trade exchanges with more countries and regions worldwide, building a multilateral win-win international cooperation platform. This will assist enterprises from all countries in precisely connecting with the market resources and development opportunities in Hong Kong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through the Chamber’s network.
